Trade Counter Sales

Assistant Branch Manager - Walthamstow - Full time

The Role:

To assist the Branch Manager with the day to day running of the branch by leading and motivating the team in providing excellent customer service whilst offering advice on our products, offers and promotions. Maximising sales opportunities and profits by ensuring high standards of visual merchandising, stock control and security procedures are achieved.

Main Duties and responsibilities

Sales & Customer Service
  • Ensure all staff are trained in all areas of retail and provided with product training to ensure optimum sales and excellent customer service.
  • Ensure that all customer complaints are dealt with professionally through to a satisfactory conclusion
  • Manage branch layout to optimise sales opportunities and ensuring that high standards of presentation and general housekeeping are achieved
  • Regularly check Point of Sale material to ensure accuracy and promotion end dates.
  • To act as a role model and mentor to new employees providing guidance and training to achieve high standards.
Staff Management
  • - Ensure that staff are used effectively by, organising and recording staff rota’s, holiday and days off, minimising the requirement for overtime wherever possible.
  • - To assist with the recruitment, interviewing and selection of team members when required.
  • - To contribute to the employee review process by providing feedback to the Branch Manager of the performance of staff and identifying areas of development
  • - Monitor and motivate all sales personnel to achieve maximum sales.
  • - To manage and control the day to day running of a busy trade counter including the allocation and completion of all tasks
  • - Liaising with the Branch Manager/ Area Retail Manager/ HR Manager to manage any under performance in line with company policies and complying with current employment legislation.
  • - Assist the Branch Manager in ensuring there are effective communication channels between the branch and relevant Head Office departments. Conducting team meetings when required to provide branch staff with all the information they require to perform well in their role.
Health & Safety Management
  • - Promote a safe environment by ensuring staff comply with all Health & Safety policies and procedures in the workplace.
  • - Ensure the warehouse areas are kept tidy and free from hazards conducting regular risk assessments.
  • - Keeping all retail areas tidy, well organised, up to date and professional in appearance
  • - Ensure all statutory notices are displayed and current i.e. H.A.S.A.W poster.
  • - To be aware of and conform to all mechanical handling equipment procedures in accordance with the company policies and health & safety legislation.
Stock Control
  • - Ensure the warehouse maintains a high level of stock accuracy and safety
  • - To assist with and conduct stocktakes and inventory when required accurately and efficiently.
  • - Ensure products are stored safely and accurately within the warehouse/stockrooms to enable quick replenishment and reduce damage.
  • - Ensure the shop floor is regularly replenished and deliveries, customer orders and stock transfers are processed quickly and accurately.
Security
  • - Ensure that all staff maintain a high awareness of customers and using acknowledgement and approach to minimise stock loss
  • - To ensure all staff are trained in the procedures for dealing with customer theft.
  • - To take responsibility for all cashing up and banking procedure within the branch in the manager’s absence
  • - To comply with all internal security procedures including staff checks and conducting staff searches.

Required Skills and Attributes:

Academic / Technical
  • GCSE maths & English to Level 4 or equivalent
knowledge & Experience
  • Experience with in a retail or customer service environment is essential.
  • An understanding or experience with power tools or relevant products would be an advantage.
  • Ideally will have some experience of leading, supervising and motivating a team.
IT Skills
  • A high level of computer literacy required
  • Competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook
Communication skills
  • A high level of verbal and written communication skills is essential
  • An excellent telephone manner and professional email correspondence is required.
  • An ability to effectively communicate with team members at all levels including senior management is essential.
  • Able to actively and confidently participate in team meetings is required.
Attitudes & Behaviours
  • Must have a customer- orientated attitude and be confident, motivated and able to use initiative.
  • Must have a pleasant, helpful and optimistic attitude and ability to form strong working relationships across a variety of business functions.
  • Must have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a valuable team leader actively supporting others and having a flexible can-do attitude.

Working hours:

Shifts will be variable working between the hours listed below.

Our branches are open from 7.00am (6.45am start) until 8.00pm on weekdays, open 8.00am (7.45am start) until 6.00pm on a Saturday and 10.00am (9.45am start) until 4.00pm on Sundays. .

Salary:

(£23,000 - £24,500 per annum)
