Makita's CXT range is a range of subcompact power tools, of which run off a CXT slide on battery. The new 12V Lithium-Ion slide battery, similar to the market-leading 18v Li-Ion battery used in the heavier tool range, has multi-contact terminals to ensure stable contact even under extreme work vibration conditions.

The slide battery fits easily into the tools and new chargers and has the same high level of structural strength as well as having built-in protection to prevent overload or over-discharge

The difference between 12V and 10.8V.

12V is the resting voltage of your battery. As soon as you’re using it, it is now connected to the electronics and the battery is now under load. It’s this load that gives it an actual output of 10.8V so they're the same thing Makita are just going through a re-brand and now using the bigger number.
