The Makita DGA456 is a compact cordless brushless 115mm angle grinder that when combined with Makita's extremely efficient 18v li-ion batteries, becomes as powerful as a standard AC powered machine, accepting 115mm diameter discs with a 22mm bore, the powerful brushless DC motor produces a max 8500rpm no load speed.
The DGA4546 builds on its predessors the 452/454. The motor has been upgraded from a standard 4-pole motor to the much more energy efficent and longer lasting 'Brushless Motor' that is becoming more popular throughout the power tool world. Having a brushless motor allows this grinder to run longer per battery charge, get more power out of the battery and so achieve faster, and more efficent grinding. Also because there are no moving parts in the machine that are going to be worn away so the motor is going to last longer.
Aside from the newer, more efficent motor, the DGA456 also features a soft start function allowing you to start a job with greater accuracy which is complemented by an 'anti-restart' function with prevents the accidental start up of the machine.
Theres also a new handy battery indicator which allows you to keep an eye on your battery life during your job.
However it does have two show stopping features:
Its the first cordless grinder in the industry to be equipped with 'Automatic Speed Control' meaning that this grinder intelligently adjusts its speed of rotation depending on the material its cutting. This machine optimises itself for whatever job its doing, meaning that your disc, grinder and battery are all used as efficently as possible.
Furthermore the DGA456 has an internal cooling function, which kicks in when the grinder is being pushed to its limits and cools the motor and the battery down to stop them from being damaged, this is a big factor in keeping this tool running as efficently as possible.
